Drink of Death

This is a concept I came up with about five years ago. I tried it back then too but it didn't turn out the way I wanted it to and the focus was way off. So when I got to try studio photography in 2011—when I studied photojournalism—I decided to give it another try. Another chance to get the focus right and using proper equipment too.

This time around I'm definitely happy with the result.

The concept is "suicide", with A LOT of aspirin (can't remember the brand I used) in a glass with red cooking wine used to symbolize blood.

I had to take the shots very quickly. The longer the pills were in the wine the more they dissolved. I wanted the pills to look as solid and whole as possible, so it all had to happen pretty fast. I set everything up and just poured the wine into the glass, which was already filled with the pills. Then I was done. Funny how it took so much more time to set it up than to take the photo.
